Quinoa is a plant which is used like a whole grain although it’s harvested for its seeds. It’s an ancient grain – harvested in the Andes for over 5,000 years! It’s very nutritious. It has about the same number of calories as an equal portion of brown rice, but with more nutritional value (it also cooks more quickly). In fact, quinoa is a complete protein (meaning that it contains all of the essential amino acids (unusual for a plant-based food).
So, try some quinoa. It’s good in pilafs and you can make tasty patties with them (add egg to bind and saute like a salmon cake).
